Minister Suggests To Raise Maximum Fine For Polluting Waters To RM10 Million

Lately, the issue of pollute waters has been increasing as days pass by and it becomes more serious as it affects a lot of people in Malaysia. This frequent water disruption has affected people’s lifestyles, health, and source of income. Due to that, there is a suggestion by Malaysian Minister to raise the maximum fine for polluting waters to RM10 Million.

Recently, there is a case involving the Yip Chee Seng & Sons Sdn. Bhd that was not just fined but the particular factory was also got to shut down after diesel was released into a raw water source and causing a massive water disruption all across the Klang Valley that really trouble a lot of people.

Because of the devastating incident, the state government officials have vowed that they will amend the Selangor Water Management Board Enactment 1999 to increase the maximum fine against individuals or even premises that are proven to cause water pollution in Selangor to the total of RM1 million.

Turns out, the Malaysian Minister of Environment and Water that is Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man believes that the increment of the fine isn’t enough for the perpetrator. He actually believes that the fine should be raised to a total of RM10 million, to better caution and punish irresponsible parties. By doing this, hopefully, the perpetrator would definitely learn their lesson and will never repeat the same mistake again.

Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also added, “Other than that, the amendment will also increase the prison sentence and all this will be presented in the next sitting of Parliament, which is most likely at the presentation at the Belanjawan 2021”.
