Norovirus Hits Students In North China University

A number of teenagers at a university in northern China’s Shanxi Province have reportedly been infected with Norovirus. Shanxi University of Finance and Economics in Taiyuan confirmed the infected students showed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.

University hospital staff members later confirmed the information but declined to provide any additional information regarding the status of the infected student.

“Currently, the campus hospital is full of infected students and the male dormitory room has been closed. Other students (who are not infected) attend classes, as usual, some students at the university,” told the media.

Last Thursday evening, the university issued a statement that after treatment, the students’ condition had improved, and some of them had recovered.

The statement indicates that tests by the city’s health surveillance department did not find any contaminated food sources on campus that may have been the cause of the outbreak.

According to China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 30 norovirus outbreaks have been reported nationwide since September this year with a total of 1,500 cases.

Norovirus does not come from the coronavirus family. Coronavirus spreads from person to person through fluids, norovirus will spread from the feces of infected people.
