Putrajaya Will Soon To Be The Region of ‘Cycling-Friendly City’

There are many Malaysian nowadays that are into the cycling activity since the MCO order has been lifted up. Unfortunately, they have not exactly been given the proper tools to carry out their cycling activities wherever they wanted. Some of the important tools that these cyclists really need would be the convenient bicycle lanes in general.

Because of the insufficient provided tools like the bicycle lanes for all these cyclists, they have decided to use the main roads for them to do their favorite activity and that is cycling. This decision and also action have resulted in increasingly tense and also conflicts on the Malaysian roads between cyclists and other road users.

Recently, it looks like the authorities are taking some action on the right track towards making a change for this major problem between cyclists and also other road users. The Ministry of Federal Territories is currently planning on changing all the motorcycle lanes in Putrajaya to become bicycle lanes. This would be an effort to make regional administration a bicycle-friendly town. Hopefully, by this, cyclists would prefer to use that rather than main roads.

Tan Sri Annuar Musa who is the Minister of Federal Territories said, “We have an area that was once built to separate motorcycle routes from other vehicles, however, there are not many motorcyclists in Putrajaya, which is why we want to modify the route to be used as a cycling lane”.

Other than that, he also added that the bicycle lanes will include an outer circle of 34km and an inner circle of about 15km. This project should be completed in a couple of months’ time if according to the plan. Other amenities that have been suggested to be done for cyclists would be including a café, a workshop, and spare parts store for bicycles. There will also be proper parking spaces for those coming from outside of Putrajaya for their cycling activities.
