(Video) Apartment Of An Instafamous Was Raided For Allegedly Selling Fake Branded Perfumes

Recently, The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has raided an apartment locates in Selangor that belongs to a Instafamous for allegedly selling counterfeit branded perfume. The specific location for the apartment is in Taman Pinggiran Putra, Seri Kembangan where all the stock of the perfumes were safely kept.

Muhammad Zikril Azan Abdullah who is Selangor KPDNHEP director said that they raided the particular condominium at 3 pm on Tuesday, the 20th of October 2020. Bernama has mentioned that the team successfully seized more than 1,000 perfume bottles estimated to be worth over RM150,000 when the raid was done.

Muhammad Zikril Azan Abdullah also said that the 26-year-old seller has told all her customers that the products she is selling were original. The seller who is a woman and also assisted by her husband has been operating the business from the apartment unit for about a year already. They marketed her products through Instagram and Facebook.

According to the investigation that they did, These sellers had mostly local customers, but the team also found shipment delivery slips and banking transaction receipts that revealed they had buyers from Singapore and Brunei.

The Selangor KPDNHEP director said, “A preliminary investigation found that the perfumes were being sold for as low as RM150 to RM200, with thousands of ringgit in profits made every month”. He added, “The victims were told that the products were genuine”.

The seller has been detained by the police yesterday but she also was released on bail on the same exact day. Muhammad Zikril Azan Abdullah assures that she will still be called to testify soon because the case is being investigated under Section 102(1)(b) of the Trademarks Act 2019 for selling or offering goods with falsely applied registered trademarks.

They can be fined not more than RM10,000 for each fake item or imprisoned for not more than three years, or both if the owner of the goods is found guilty.
