Five Flood Relief Centres Opened In Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — About 362 flood victims from 87 families in Sepang and Hulu Langat, Selangor have been placed at five temporary evacuation centres which opened late in the evening and night yesterday.

Selangor Disaster Management Unit Operations officer, Muhammad Izzat Haziq Mohd Nazir said the opening of the relief centres was due to continuous heavy rain for several hours in both districts causing the water levels of Sungai Langat and Sungai Semenyih to rise and overflow into residential areas.

He said two evacuation centres were opened in Hulu Langat, namely at the Kompleks Penghulu Batu 10 Cheras and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Serai while the other three in Sepang were at Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Dengkil, Taman Gemilang community hall and Pekan Dengkil community hall.

“A total of 161 victims from 36 families were placed at the SK Sungai Serai relief centre while 55 victims from 15 families were evacuated to Kompleks Penghulu Batu 10 Cheras.

“SRA Dengkil accommodated 24 evacuees from six families, Taman Gemilang community hall (55 from 14 families) and 67 people from 16 families were moved to Pekan Dengkil community hall,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Muhammad Izzat Haziq said more evacuation centres would be opened if the number of victims increased to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which is currently in force.
