Moderate Quake Strikes Sumatera in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 —A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale, struck southern Sumatera in Indonesia at 9.44 am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It occurred 172 km south of Siberut Island at a depth of 19 km, the department said in a statement.

The quake did not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
