According to Johns Hopkins University, on Wednesday, The United States has registered about 2,400 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This is marked as the highest daily toll in six months as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.
Registered new COVID-19 cases on that day rose up to as much as 200,000, with 2,439 deaths in 24 hours.
Ignoring the warnings for COVID-19, Americans travelled to their hometowns the night before Thanksgiving to celebrate the most important holiday for them.
The authorities practically begged the people to not travel and urged them to keep it small and safe, but the airports still swarm with people eager to go back to their families, not taking matters seriously.
President-elect Joe Biden had said that everything will turn back to normal and that they just need to hold on for a little while.
“There is real hope, tangible hope. So hang on. Don’t let yourself surrender to the fatigue,” Biden said in a televised Thanksgiving address. “You will get your lives back. Life is going to return to normal. That will happen. This will not last forever.”
Since masks aren’t made mandatory yet, Biden is determined to make that the first act as a president.
Biden will also be promoting Dr. Anthony Fauci to a senior position for the incoming administration. Dr. Fauci mentioned that he had worked so long as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a position he has held since 1984, but he will consider the options Biden will give him later on.
“I’m perfectly comfortable with the role that I’m in, but certainly if the president of the United States wants me to do something else, I’d seriously consider it,” Fauci said.
“If President-elect Biden decides on a mask mandate, I will be fully supportive of that. I do know that there is a considerable amount of pushback for mandates,” Fauci said. “I would certainly be supportive of it.”
Dr. Fauci had also suggested Biden implement mask mandates according to the rate of outbreaks in an area, backed up by the federal government.
The number of infection cases that come daily will surely be reduced greatly if that is ever enforced.
