‘The World Ends With You’ Receives Anime Adaption After 14 Years

Square Enix, a popular Japanese video game holding company, has announced that they will have an anime adaption of the classic fighting-and-fashion JRPG game that has been around since 2007 on Nintendo DS.

The long-awaited sequel will is confirmed to be released in 2021, April.

The story tells about a teenager named Neku Sakuraba, as he becomes unknowingly involved in a deadly contest called the Reaper’s Game, that unfolds in Tokyo’s fashionable Shibuya district.

“Neku awakens in the middle of Shibuya’s bustling Scramble Crossing with no memory of how he got there,” explained Square at the time of the adaptation’s unveiling, “Little does he know he’s been transported to an alternate plane of existence known as the Underground (UG)”.

The trailer was released on Youtube, Nov. 23.

Square Enix has also confirmed that they will be releasing a western version next year, but no date has been given yet.
