There were 2,297 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University, the largest single-day rise since May, bringing the pandemic toll to 262,065 out of nearly 12.8m cases.
As of Tuesday, there are at least 12.5 million cases nationwide and more than 259,000 people have died in the US since the pandemic’s start — more than any other country by far, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
In conjunction with Thanksgiving, families all around the United States shared photos of empty chairs to remember loved ones lost to COVID-19.
