A rare pair of Adidas and German porcelain manufacturer Meissen sneakers that could become the first to collect $1 million went on sale Monday at a Sotheby’s auction.
Renowned porcelain manufacturer Meissen, who has previously partnered with the likes of Supreme, has teamed up with Adidas to make an exclusive makeover for its ZX8000.
This sneaker is much more a work of art than a wearable rarity, appropriately called the Meissen x Adidas Originals ZX8000 “Porcelain.” Hand-painted premium leather is matched with hand-made porcelain overlays that are decorated with 15 of the 130 possible patterns applied to the historic Krater Vase by Meissen.
Centered on the famous ZX8000 model by Adidas and painted by a Meissen artisan, the leather shoes are tipped to set a new record for a pair of trainers.
Previously, Nike Air Jordan 1s, sold by auction firm Christie’s last August for $615,000 (RM2.05 million), broke the world record for sneakers.
The Adidas-Meissen shoes auctioned by Sotheby’s are expected to be bought by collectors in the auction series at a price of $1 million (RM4.07 million) ending on 16 December.
