U.S Tennis Player, Sam Querrey Fined $20,000 For Breaching COVID-19 Protocol

U.S tennis player Sam Querrey was sentenced to six months’ probation and fined $ 20,000 by the ATP Tour for violating the Covid-19 security protocol at the 2020 St Petersburg Open.

According to the ATP Tour, they have completed an investigation into the 53rd player of the world who committed an offense last October, when he left Russia on a private plane even though the quarantine period has not yet expired after a positive Covid-19.

The ATP ruled Querrey’s conduct contrary to the integrity of the game under the provisions of the Major Offenses of the Players in the ATP Code of Ethics.

It prompted the ATP to impose a sentence on Querrey but could still not be fined if he successfully complied with the rules during the probationary period.

“Taking into consideration Mr. Querrey’s many years of otherwise good standing with the ATP and other mitigating factors, the fine is suspended and will be lifted subject to Mr. Querrey committing no further breaches of health and safety protocols related to COVID-19 within a probationary six-month period, “ATP said.

The 33-year-old tennis player has five days to appeal the sentence.
