Phil Spector, Convicted Murderer And Music Producer, Dies At The Age of 80

Phil Spector was confirmed dead at the age of 80 by natural causes by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

He was a music producer, creator of a production style that is now known as the “Wall of Sound,” and the person that formed the Teddy Bears. Their hit song is “To Know Him is to Love Him,” which Phil produced when he was still in high school.

Phil also produced songs for well-known icons like The Beatles, Cher, and Ramones.

Behind all that talent and fame, he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison in 2009. He allegedly caused the death of actress Lana Clarkson, where she was shot through the roof of her mouth and found slumped over in a chair in Spector’s mansion in California.

He was a major influence on music during the 1960s with his approach to music production that lands his spot on his Phillies label. Phil was also a Grammy winner for Album of the Year as a producer of “The Concert for Bangladesh.”

“Lana Clarkson was a warm, compassionate, kind, loving woman who would be 58 years old now,” Clarkson’s mother, Donna, said in a statement following Spector’s death. “Her energy, brightness, and love of life have sustained her family since her murder 18 years ago.”

The actress was known for her role in the 1985 “Barbarian Queen,” an American-Argentine fantasy B-Movie.
