Renowned Indonesian Ulama Syekh Ali Jaber Dies

JAKARTA, Jan 14 — Renowned Indonesian ulama (Islamic scholar), Syekh Ali Jaber died at the Cempaka Putih Hospital here today, reportedly while undergoing treatment for COVID-19.

However, the actual cause of  the death of Syekh Ali Jaber whose real name Ali Saleh Mohammed Ali Jaber, 44, is not known as there are also reports saying he tested negative for the virus before his passing.

According to a posting on the yayasan.syekhalijaber Instagram account, the free lance preacher who is very popular on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok and often appears on various local television channels, died at 8.30 am (local time).

“It is true Syekh Ali died at 08.30 am WIB (Western Indonesian Time), he was already negative for COVID. He died at Cempaka Putih Hospital, Jakarta,” Syekh Ali Jaber’s close friend Ustaz Yusuf Mansur said in the Instagram posting.

The late Syekh Ali Jaber who is of Arabic descent was born in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He married Umi Nadia who hails from Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia in 2008 and was granted Indonesian citizenship in 2012.

On Sept 13, 2020, Syekh Ali Jaber was stabbed in the shoulder by a knife-wielding man while giving a sermon at the Falahuddin Mosque, Sukajawa, Bandar Lampung. The injury was not serious
