Big Gorilla Statue Built In Japan To ‘Chase’ COVID Blues Away

Japan has been very famous for its one and only technological advancement. As the matter of fact, the country even managed to control the first wave of Covid-19 before this despite not having any movement control order, forcing their businesses to close down, or even limited testing.

The country however unfortunately is currently facing a sudden resurgence of Covid-19 cases that are getting higher day by day. Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga had to even declare a state of emergency in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, and also Kanagawa provinces.

According to a report, villagers in Chikuzen, Fukuoka, Japan have decided to build a giant gorilla statue to encourage people to tough out the coronavirus pandemic due to concern about the increasing number of cases.

This gorilla statue stands at an impressive 23 feet, is made of steel and also straw. The particular statue even has a pair of eyes that glow red in the night to make it look even more life-like. It is proudly known as the special “Giant Straw Scarecrow Gorilla: Proud Gorilla 2020”.

It was completed in the month of December last year and is set to remain in the village until the end of this month. It has become a tourist attraction since that brings in many visitors to the village. The locals also decided to build the statue to curb this virus from spreading in the community.

According to Kyodo News, the village has built giant straw scarecrows since 2015 as a symbol of its annual fall festival.

The event was scaled back last year due to a coronavirus outbreak, but organizers, including the city government, decided to make a gorilla statue to help people forget about the outbreak, even if only for a while, according to Chikuzen city officials.
