Before you start driving to any destination, make sure your vehicle is in good condition and safe to drive.
Do you remember when was the last time your vehicle was maintained? When was the last time you checked the condition of your vehicle’s tires, was it still safe to use or vice versa?
Through a post on Facebook by Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ), there are some vehicle maintenance tips that you can do yourself at home. Believe me, some things can be done on your own without high mechanical knowledge.
Here are the tips shared by JPJ:
1) Add Or Change Engine Oil
– Engine oil needs to be changed according to the time period of use or total travel distance. Do not let the oil exceed the set limit as it may cause engine damage.
2) Check Other Liquids
– There are some other liquids that need to be checked besides engine oil such as mirror wiper water and radiator coolant. Add if necessary or before running out.
3) Check the Vehicle Battery
– Check the vehicle battery if there is any dirt or damage. Clean the battery terminals using a wire brush. Use laundry soap or mix water with baking soda and rinse with clean water.
4) Vehicle Tire Air Pressure
– Check vehicle tire air pressure at least once a week/once in ten days. Low wind tires can result in heavy oil consumption while excessive wind tires can cause tires to explode.
5) Clean Or Change The Air Filter
– The air filter should be changed once a year to ensure that it works properly. Identify the air filter box on the engine and clean it or replace it with a new air filter if it is damaged.
6) Change the Mirror Wiper
– Replace the vehicle windshield wiper if it is damaged because the windshield wiper is important to use, especially during the rainy season.
7) Vehicle Tire Alignment
– Improper tire alignment can cause worn and uneven tires and can cause accidents. Check tire alignment at least once in 3 months.
8) Check the Spark Plug
– The spark plug serves to ignite a mixture of air and fuel so that the engine produces energy. Replace the spark plug after driving 30,000 kilometers or according to the appropriate time period.
