JAKARTA, Feb 5 — The highlight of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s official visit to Indonesia on Friday is the four-eye meeting between the Malaysian Prime Minister and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
The meeting will take place at the presidential palace, Istana Merdeka, here.
Muhyiddin is scheduled to arrive at the palace at 10.30 am (11.30 am in Malaysia) and will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony before the meeting.
The face-to-face meeting between both leaders will see strict adherence to COVID-19 preventive standard operating procedures (SOPs).
A Malaysian diplomat in Indonesia shared with the media recently on the significance of the meeting between the two leaders.
“There are several matters that are of interest to both countries that require the highest level, face to face and heart to heart discussions,” said Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Zainal Abidin Bakar.
Both leaders will hold a joint press conference later before performing Friday prayer at the Baiturrahim Mosque within the palace complex.
The president who is popularly known as Jokowi will host an official banquet for the visiting prime minister and his small entourage at another presidential palace, the Istana Negara here, again with strict SOPs.
Muhyiddin who arrived here at 4.30 pm on Thursday will conclude his official visit in less than 24 hours.
The visit is held at the invitation of the Indonesian President and this is Muhyiddin’s first official visit since assuming office in March last year.
