Housewife Earns Good Money By Producing Calamansi Extract

KANGAR, March 9 — A deep interest in farming since she was small prompted a housewife in Kampung Santan near here to become an entrepreneur by planting limau kasturi or calamansi.

Wan Mastura Megat who started cultivating the crop in 2016 said she now has 200 calamansi trees that are planted on a 0.4 hectare land.

On the average, the 34-year-old woman said she could produce up to one tonne of calamansi a month which later would be sold at the nearby wholesale market.

The excess produce gave Wan Mastura the idea to make calamansi extract to avoid wastage.

“I didn’t expect to receive such an overwhelming response, especially from women who consume it for their health and beauty,” she told Bernama recently.

Wan Mastura said in less than a month, she managed to sell 400 bottles of calamansi extract which priced at RM6.00 each.

She said apart from Perlis, she also received orders from Kuala Lumpur.

“We produce the calamansi extract without preservatives or any addition of water. It also can provide many health benefits as calamansi is high in vitamin C,” she said.

Wan Mastura said due to the high demand, she planned to focus on the production of calamansi extract rather than selling the fruit as it was more profitable.

She was also ready to share her knowledge and advice to those interested in calamansi farming.
