Jobless Man Sues His Parents For Lifelong Financial Support

A 41-year-old unemployed Oxford graduate has taken his parents to court in an attempt to make them support him financially for life.

Despite being a trained lawyer and a degree holder from Oxford University, Faiz Siddiqui claims that he is completely dependent on his Dubai-based mother and father. In court filings, Siddiqui describes himself as a ‘vulnerable’ grown-up child due to health issues. He further insists that being cut-off by his wealthy parents would be a violation of his human rights.

The Oxford graduate has been unemployed since 2011. He has been living rent-free in a $1.4 million apartment owned by mother Rakshanda, 69, and father Javed, 71, near Hyde Park in central London. They have been paying his bills along with a $550 (RM2,265) weekly allowance. But an argument led his parents to finally decided to cut him off.

“These long-suffering parents have their own view of what is suitable provision for their ”difficult, demanding and pertinacious” son,” said Justin Warshaw QC, the parents’ lawyer.

Previously, Faiz sued his alma mater. His claims were that the institution’s inadequate teaching’ affected his career prospect. Because he did not get a first-class degree. He valued his loss at $1.4 million, but a judge threw out his claims.

The case now is sent to the Court of Appeal. It is considered a landmark case that could impact the rights of every UK parent.
