Meghan And Harry’s Interview With Oprah, What Do We Know So Far

During an interview with daytime queen and mogul; Oprah Winfrey on CBS, the Duke, and Duchess of Sussex shared their side of the story about life in the Royal Family.

The couple gave jaw-dropping revelations on television on how the rules and conflict of their union affect them in almost all aspects. Here are the things we found about this situation.

1. Issue on the baby’s color’

The biggest issue discussed in the interview is how ‘dark’ Meghan and Harry’s baby might be.

“In those months when I was pregnant (there were) concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born,” said Meghan.

The biggest alarm bells on how despite how time passes, the monarchy is still very much on white supremacy to the point of alienating family members. Meghan told in the interview how their children would not be receiving any protection from the royal family. But for her, it’s not about titles but more about the rights that her children should have without crossing the boundaries of the titles.

After Oprah asked the Duke about the conversation, Harry simply said, “That is the conversation I am never going to share.” Keeping silent to protect the family. But what was said is enough for us to speculate.

2. The difference between privacy and intrusion

Meghan also opened up about how the tabloids ‘hunted’ her family members for stories on them. Thomas Markle and Samantha Markle, Meghan’s father and half-sister respectively both gave interviews to tabloids. Meghan also mentioned how she felt betrayed by both statements about her. However, she is thankful that her mother protected her and remained silent.

Meghan responded to her step-sister Samantha Markle’s allegation of her being narcissistic. Recently, Samantha published a “tell-all” book about her relationship with the duchess with one allegation on the Duchess being a narcissist. But when asked about it, Meghan gave an interesting response.

“When you talk about betrayal it is about someone that you’ve had a relationship with. I don’t feel comfortable talking about people I really don’t know.”

“The last time I saw her was eighteen…nineteen years ago.” They weren’t close and definitely did not grew up together. Which begs the question, how did Samantha know so much of a sister she never connects with?

“She changed her name back to Markle after I started dating Harry,” she added further.

3. Harry and Meghan’s mental and emotional support

Meghan spoke about how lonely she felt after joining the Royal Family and the loss of her freedom. “When I joined that family, that was the last time until we came here that I saw my passport, my driver’s license, my keys, all that gets turned over,” she said.

She said her mental health got so bad that she feels suicidal. She talked about a photo that reminded her of the day she felt that way.

“That picture, if you zoom in, what I see is how tightly his knuckles are gripped around mine,” she told Oprah, as she became emotional.

“We are smiling and doing our job but we’re both just trying to hold on. “Every time those lights went down in that royal box, I was just weeping.”

“I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help, said I had never felt that way before and need to go somewhere, and I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

However, she reached out to one of Lady Diana’s friends. “Because it’s like who else could understand what it’s actually like on the inside?”

4. Harry ‘cut off financially’

In the first quarter of 2020, Harry said his family “literally cut me off financially”. After officially leaving the royal family.

The couple revealed that American billionaire and media mogul Tyler Perry provided Harry and Meghan with a home and security last year when they moved from Canada to southern California.

The couple mentioned the late Princess Diana in the interview multiple times. Harry told the media that his late mother left him some money. Because of that, he was able to leave.

“But I’ve got what my mum left me and without that, we wouldn’t have been able to do this.”

“I wouldn’t have been able to (left) because I myself was trapped in the system. My father and my brother are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.” He added.

This confession from Harry shows that not all is sunny for a life as a prince. Considering the intense scrutiny and pressure, it seems that he is grateful to be able to get away from life with his family in tow.

“I think she (Diana) saw it coming.” This statement further enhances Diana’s love for her children even transcends beyond the grave with her experience to learn from.
