One of the movies going to be released this year from 20th Century Fox is The Woman in The Window. The movie will be on Netflix on May 14, 2021.
The film was originally scheduled to be released theatrically by 20th Century Fox on October 4, 2019, but was delayed to May 15, 2020, due to re-editing after test screenings. The theatrical release was later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it was sold to Netflix.
Based on the novel of the same name from author A.J. Finn, it tells the story of child psychologist Anna Fox who is suffering from agoraphobia – the fear of the outside. She develops a habit of watching her neighbors after being confined in her house for almost a year. She then accidentally witnessed a murder in her neighbor’s home and this is where our story kicks in.
From the perspective of Anna, readers get to experience the feeling of agoraphobia. The stress and nerve of being outside and the comforting yet suppressive feeling of being trapped inside. Anna is also on medication that could induce hallucinations. Hence, it is hard for her to distinguish between dreams and reality.
This is also a story about grief and connection. Her inability to socialize in real life and her estranged relationship with her family made it difficult to communicate her fears and loss.
Speaking of her fears, the suspense of the story lies in readers trying to discern the real when the lines are blurred. Readers will also root for Anna as some mysterious things begin to happen around her with the disappearance of the murdered woman and the appearance of a stranger.
Fans of murder mystery and sleuth stories would also be pleased as Anna formed her own personal investigation. In time a lot of shocking truths will be revealed that will leave your jaw drop.
