Former Receptionist Trainee Gives Out These Hotel Tips For Those Who Don’t Know

Having a vacation once in a while supposedly would make you free your mind and help you feel so much better and refreshed after that. Unfortunately, there is one little thing that could really disturb your peace and make you feel so regret having a vacation and that would be not having the best experience during your stay at the hotel.

Because of that, we have to make sure that we really get the best deal during our vacation especially during our stay at any hotel. Little do people know that there are actually a lot of hotel tips to be used so that they can have the best experience during their stay there.

That is why this generous individual who used to be a former receptionist trainee has shared some of the hotel tips that people should know. By knowing all of these tips, people would definitely have a great experience during their own time at the hotel when they are on vacation with their beloved ones. She has posted the thread on her own Twitter social media platform that goes by the name @kittynpups. She also has made a disclaimer stating that these tips that she gave are only applicable for some hotels in Malaysia. They may vary for different hotels and countries.

These are some of the tips shared by a former receptionist trainee:

  1. The price that you are going to pay is always the cheapest if you are using the Agoda service.
  2. Don’t just walk in for a room because the walk-in price is doubled or even tripled.
  3. Make a prior online booking before coming to the hotel for a room. You will have to wait 15-30 mins for your booking to get into the system.
  4. If you book using booking.com, make sure to bring enough cash or a bank card because the payment is still not completed yet. We are going to charge you at the counter.
  5. Do not have to print out the booking confirmation.
  6. Only read out the booking ID during check-in.
  7. Never forget your IC or passport. Do not leave it in the car when you come checking in because you will have to get it back and that could be tiring.
  8. You can call the receptionist before checking in to confirm your booking if there is any problem.
  9. Reconfirm with them your room type so that you got the right room for you.
  10. Some hotels do allow you to change or upgrade the room with extra charges and also to downgrade but there would be no refund.
  11. If you have the extra money, ask the receptionist for their room upgrade recommendation, it Is worth it.
  12. Never arrive late! Especially if you book the view room. We allocate the first arrivers on the higher levels first. You might not get the higher-level view room if you arrive late.
  13. You can request just ANYTHING from the hotel. The bellman would send your luggage up for check-in and down for check-out, wheelchair, baby cot, and also other requests.
  14. The phone in the room, please use it! You don’t have to walk to the counter for any inquiries or requests. We will straight away know your room number from the phone call.
  15. Inform us if there are any defective amenities with your room, we’ll send the maintenance or housekeeping team. We also would change your room.
  16. Does not matter if you already made the booking or not, you can ask them to see the showrooms if you’re unsure or being indecisive about room type or the view. It is okay because you can always change your mind afterward.
  17. If the room comes with a complimentary breakfast, you still can buy the add-on for it.
  18. If you forgot to bring your flip-flop to go to the pool, you can use the guest’s disposable slippers in your room.
  19. Some hotels do have a towel counter at the pool so you don’t have to bring yours, ask the staff if there is one.
  20. If you book more than one room, you can request for side by side or even connecting room. If there’s none available, we’ll try to allocate the rooms at least on the same level.
  21. If you do not want to stay another night but you want to extend the check-out time basically around 3 pm, you can pay for it.
  22. If you want to add another staying day, you do not have to book another room at the counter. book the same room type if you don’t want to move the room through Agoda or others. Bring the booking ID to the reception and tell them that you want to extend your stay in the same room. you may also change to another room type.
  23. Do not forget to prepare at least RM50 cash for the deposit.
  24. You can pay us for room decoration like birthday, anniversary, honeymoon or others but it is not recommended because it won’t be as pretty as you’d expect. I would recommend you to deco it by yourself or hire the local event organizer.
