Moderate Earthquake Strikes Off The Northwest Coast Of Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale hit off the northwest coast of Sumatra, Indonesia at 7.58 am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the quake occurred 169 kilometres (km) southwest of Nias, Indonesia, at a depth of 10 km.

However, the quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
