The island city (maybe country or not) Hong Kong is different from its big brother, China. The name actually  literally means “Fragrant Harbour”. Over the years, Hong Kong has been given a number of nicknames. Hong Kong tried rebranding to distinguish itself from China. And in many ways, it is different. One of its name is the vertical city due to the density of skyscrapers.

But despite the modern façade, Hong Kong has plenty of beautiful places to offer. And here are the five most beautiful places in Hong Kong.

1.Victoria Peak

Also known as “The Peak”, this high point is the perfect way to look at Hong Kong’s skyline from 554 metres. You can go on a tram and enjoy the breathtaking sight as you ascend to the top. The best thing about The Peak is that you can visit it at any time of day (or night) and the panorama will still amaze you.

2.Big Wave Bay

For lovers of pristine, azure waters, Big Wave Bay, or more commonly known as Tai Long Wan is definitely for you. The beach sits on the east coast of Sai Kung. To get there require a little bit of hiking. But a light exercise is worth it with the view and the relaxing water. This is a relatively untouched oasis.

3.Sai Wan Swimming Shed

Swimming sheds were popular in the 90s. This presented opportunities for local to enjoys time-out at open sea. But today, Sai Wan Swimming Shed is the only one active in Hong Kong coastline. With steps down to the water, visitors can enjoy open-air swimming in a gorgeous setting. This place is now popular with Instagrammers and photographers for gorgeous sunset shot.

4.Dragon’s Back

This is where you could enjoy Hong Kong’s greenery . It got its name from the shape resembling a dragon’s back. Getting to the top require 3-4 hours of hike. But the view of Hong Kong coastline will be worth it.

5. Mong Kok Neon Lights

The inspiration for many futuristic cyberpunk settings in games and movies, visiting Mong Kok street and markets at night is a must for travellers. One of the most packed areas in the city, this might not be for those who opt for peace and quiet. But the twinkling neon lights and smell of food and loud business in the streets that will give travellers sensory overload that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

Anime, game and movie lovers will want to see the inspiration for anime like 1995’s Ghost in The Shell, Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077.
