Useful During Thunderstorms, Practice These Tips To Avoid Electric Shock

Lately, it would always be a rainy season and also thunderstorms occur. Malaysian Meteorological Department also has always reminded people to be aware of thunderstorms and also heavy rain with strong winds in several states in Malaysia. Because this kind of weather keeps on happening, we must be extra careful with all of the electric appliances that we are using at home and how do we keep them.

This doctor named Dr. Redza Zainol has been so kind to share some tips on how to avoid getting electric shock. He has posted all the tips on his own Twitter social media platform. He decided to share these tips because he just encountered a particular case in which a little child has been attacked by an electric shock that nearly killed her.

These are some of the best ways on how to avoid getting an electric shock:

  • Close all electrical sockets.
  • All wires are covered with insulation.
  • Keep the wire out of the reach of the child’s hands.
  • Children are monitored when in areas at risk of electrical injury.

In a worst-case scenario, these are some things that should be done if there is any child that got electrocuted:

  • Turn off the electrical supply or if necessary, the electrical supply at the main switch in the house. Turning off electrical appliances does not stop the electrical current.
  • If the power supply cannot be turned off, use a dry non -conducting electrical object such as wood or rubber footwear to push the child away from the electrical source.
  • Be sure to stand on non -conductive materials such as rubber footwear.
  • Once separated from the electrical source, check the child for breathing and heart rate. If not, continue with CPR.
  • If the child has burned, remove clothing and spray with moderately cold running water until the pain subsides.
  • Get emergency help. Dial 991 for ambulances and paramedics and wait by the victim’s side until help arrives.
