(Video) Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of The Dead’, Pits Dave Bautista VS Zombie Queen

Yesterday, Netflix released the new trailer for Zack Snyder’s new zombie action movie, Army of the Dead starring Dave Bautista. One of Snyder’s most popular works is the 2004 zombie movie Dawn of the Dead which was a commercial success. Despite the title, this new movie is not a sequel to the 2004 movie.

Zombie fans may rejoice as based on the trailer, this feels like a new kind of zombie story. This shows a post-apocalyptic setting where the world is run down by zombies. But the government manage to gather and trap all of the zombies in Las Vegas, where it all began.

Enter Dave Bautista’s character, a man in desperate need of money. He and his group of money-seeking mercenaries decided to enter the vault in Las Vegas for their big break. However, as they enter the city they see the zombies evolved themselves into a more organized horde lead by a queen. The stakes are higher as they only have 32 hours before the government nuke the city.

Between them and $200 million lies an army of the dead and 32 hours before they go nuclear.

According to Snyder, “It is a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie, so it’s genre-on-genre in a great way”. The mix of zombie and heist genre looks like an interesting concept combined with Snyder’s eye for visuals.

However, he also noted that “It’s going to surprise people that there’s a lot of warmth and real emotion with these great characters.”

Army of the Dead also stars Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Samantha Win, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, and Hiroyuki Sanada, as well as Raúl Castillo, Huma Quereshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy.

It will release on Netflix and in selected theatres on May 21.

The story is rich with character backstory and lore. Hence, the movie is also getting a prequel movie and an anime series. It is unclear what the prequel will be about. But the anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas will chronicle the origins of Bautista’s character, Scott Ward.
