Barcelona boss that is Ronald Koeman said the club would do everything possible to convince Lionel Messi to hold a meeting with the new president named Joan Laporta and then plan for next season. This is because Lionel Messi’s contract with Barcelona will expire in June and he has not decided on the next step.
The 33 -year-old intended to leave Barca last year under the previous regime. Koeman has met with Laporta who was elected in March, during the international break to discuss Lionel Messi’s future and possible summer signings. Laporta later met with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, and the player’s father too.
“It is a really important issue and we will do everything we can for Leo to spend many more years at this club,” Koeman said in a news conference on Sunday when asked if the club would set Messi a deadline. According to the news, Laporta wants to wait for the results of an internal audit before offering Lionel Messi a new deal.
Paris Saint-Germain and also Manchester City remain to be the front runners to sign Lionel Messi if he does decide to seek a new challenge.
