Colombia Winger Diaz Named Revelation Of Copa America

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 14 — Colombia’s Luis Diaz was Tuesday named the revelation of the Copa America after a breakthrough tournament in which he scored four goals.

The 24-year-old Porto winger was unknown to many fans before the tournament began but became an indispensable part of the Cafeteros team that finished third in Brazil, according to Xinhua.

After a superb goal from a tight angle in the semifinal against Argentina, Diaz netted a brace in the third-place playoff with Peru. He also scored with a spectacular overhead scissor kick in his team’s 2-1 defeat to Brazil.

In addition, Diaz was named in the South American Football Confederation’s (CONMEBOL) team of the tournament, which was dominated by Argentines and Brazilians.

Other players selected were Emiliano Martinez (Argentina), Cristian Romero (Argentina), Rodrigo De Paul (Argentina), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Casemiro (Brazil), Marquinhos (Brazil), Neymar (Brazil), Pervis Estupinan (Ecuador), Yoshimar Yotun (Peru) and Mauricio Isla (Chile).
