A 45 years old Hidefumi Yoshida is known as Japan’s ‘Tears Teacher’ where for the past 8 years, he had made 50,000 people learn how to relieve stress by crying. According to him, Japanese people originally had the tendency to cry easily but that all changed when children and adults are discouraged from crying.
They ended up neglecting their feelings and becoming distant. Yoshida had been trying to change this perception by educating and helping people to relax by crying it off.
In a movie posted by Asian Boss on Youtube, it tells the story of Hidefumi Yoshida:
A tear-seeking seminar held by Yoshida is to detox their hearts purposely by crying for 2-3 minutes. Yoshida shared that 60% of the people that attended his Rui Katsu seminar are women from the stressful work environment. He believes that not many men came for his service because they are skeptical about crying as crying has been described as a sign of weakness.
Previously, he worked at a care center for elderly people where one of his colleagues passed away due to overworking. Around that time, he watched a heartbreaking movie, Titanic, and cried a lot while watching it but he noticed that he felt a lot lighter afterward. He then relates how his colleague would have benefited from the short cry instead of pushing himself to work until it robbed his life.
That was the turning point for Yoshida. He recognized the power of crying has in relieving stress. Other than him, there are actually other people who run the same program after Yoshida created a course with a doctor so that people can be certified to do so. As of now, there are about 250 people with the certification all over the country.
In Kamakura, Yoshida teamed up with a travel agency and made a Rui Katsu seminar with them. During the one-day seminar, Yoshida will start by telling them more information about Rui Katsu and they will watch few touching videos before they go around Kamakura. The participants highly recommended the seminar to everyone that have been trying to hide their feelings.
