Parents definitely love showering their kids with all the care and love they have. However, there is such a thing as having too many of a good thing. When a parent hovers over their child, trying to anticipate every need, the child may lack trust in their own judgment and competence. To promote a child’s sense of agency, care must be provided in a balanced and measured manner. In some cases, parents care too much which leaves their children feeling miserable and controlled their entire lives and this leads to a no good ending.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the girl who is in 2016 was sentenced to ten years in prison for murdering her mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. But how did things got to that extend? Gypsy was known to friends and neighbours as a sickly, wheelchair-bound child, and Dee Dee as her loving carer but partially, it wasn’t true.
Dee Dee said that Gypsy Rose, who was born in 1991, suffered sleep apnea when she was a baby. Dee Dee characterized Gypsy as having leukemia and muscular dystrophy, and that she needed a wheelchair and a feeding tube when she was eight years old. Seizures, asthma, and hearing and visual impairments were among the medical issues that Dee Dee mentioned about her daughter.
Gypsy has been prescribed a long list of drugs and had to sleep with a breathing machine as a result of Dee Dee’s activities. She also had a number of surgery, including eye treatments and the excision of her salivary glands. Gypsy’s teeth were removed out when they deteriorated, maybe due to her medications, missing salivary glands, or neglect.
Gypsy, on the other hand, could walk, did not require a feeding tube, and did not have cancer. Her hair had been taken off by her mother, so she was bald. Experts believe Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental illness that caused her to create her daughter’s illness in order to gain attention and sympathy for caring for a sick child.
Medical testing on Gypsy’s diagnosis was frequently ambiguous or conflicting, but Dee Dee refused to see any doctors who questioned her daughter’s problems. And many caregivers agreed with Dee Dee’s wishes. She’d got some nurse training, so she could accurately explain illnesses, and she’d given Gypsy medication to imitate some ailments. Dee Dee, on the other hand, was lovely and appeared to be dedicated to her kid. Dee Dee encouraged Gypsy not to offer information at their appointments when she was old enough to speak – she was always the one recounting Gypsy’s fabricated medical history.
As time went by, Dee Dee even began to lie about Gypsy’s age. Gypsy’s birth certificate’s dates were tampered with to make her daughter appear younger. Gypsy, on the other hand, was proving increasingly difficult for Dee Dee to handle.
The Murder
Gypsy attempted to flee her mother in 2011 by fleeing with a man she met at a science fiction conference. However, Dee Dee was able to track them out thanks to mutual friends. She persuaded the man that Gypsy was a minor, despite the fact that she was 19 at the time. Dee Dee shattered her computer and forcefully tied Gypsy to her bed once they arrived home, according to Gypsy. Gypsy also claims that her mother would slap her and refuse to feed her on occasion.
Gypsy was eventually able to reconnect to the internet. She signed up for a Christian dating site and met Nicholas Godejohn there. She told him the truth about her mother’s deeds and then requested that he kill Dee Dee so that they could be together. He arrived at her residence in June 2015 and stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy waited in the toilet, ears covered.
Many people wondered why Gypsy had to go to that extend but according to Gypsy, she was afraid that no one would trust her. Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016. She was given a ten-year term, though she will be available for parole in 2024. In 2018, Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Gypsy, back then, was happy that she was free from all torture but she wasn’t happy that Dee Dee was dead.
