Tze Yong Wins Scottish Open For Third Title of The Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — National men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong won the Scottish Open 2021 in Glasgow last night for the fourth international title of his career.

In an all-Malaysian final, the 21-year-old beat his senior and former national teammate Soong Joo Ven  21-18, 21-14 in 50 minutes to clinch his third crown of the year, according to the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) official website.

Tze Yong, who made his Thomas Cup debut last month at Aarhus, Denmark, had also won the 2019 South Australia International, 2021 Polish Open and 2021 Belgian Open.

The world number 62 will next play in the Welsh International, where he will open his campaign against Subhankar Dey of India on Thursday.

“I think last night’s match was tough because we knew each other’s game play as we trained together for a year.

“It was a matter of who performed better in the final. I will give my best at the Welsh International to end the year with another title,” he said in a video shared by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) with the media.

Malaysia’s two other finalists had to settle for second best.

In the men’s doubles final, Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Mohd Haikal Nazri went down to Christopher Grimley-Matthew Grimley of Scotland 22-20, 21-16.

In the women’s doubles, Anna Ching Yik Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing lost 21-14, 21-12 to top seeds Rachel Honderich-Kisten Tsai of Canada.
