The Meteorological Department of Malaysia that is also known as MetMalaysia has recently detected a low-pressure system, which may cause thunderstorms in the States in northern Peninsular Malaysia on the 21st and also the 22nd of the month of December. MetMalaysia director-general, that is none other than Muhammad Helmi Abdullah has said that the particular forecast followed a low-pressure system now at a position 4.8’N 93.7’E in the Andaman Sea.

The low-pressure system is expected to move to the east near the north of the Straits of Malacca. The possibility of this system rising to the level of the Tropical Depression is low as it also can cause thunderstorms in the northern states of the Peninsula.

- Do not take shelter in a small place or under a secluded tree.
- If there is lightning and there is no solid shelter, get in the car and close the windows.
- Get out of the boat and stay away from the water.
- Telephone lines and metal pipes can conduct electricity.
- Avoid using telephones or any electrical equipment.
- Use the phone only in an emergency.
- Unplug unused electrical equipment.
- Don’t take a shower.
- Turn off the air conditioning.
- Lightning power surges can put more load on the compressor.
- If driving on highways and bridges, beware of strong winds.
- Move to a higher place if flash floods are expected.
