How Does It Happen? Relation Between Low-Pressure System And Thunderstorms

The Meteorological Department of Malaysia that is also known as MetMalaysia has recently detected a low-pressure system, which may cause thunderstorms in the States in northern Peninsular Malaysia on the 21st and also the 22nd of the month of December. MetMalaysia director-general, that is none other than Muhammad Helmi Abdullah has said that the particular forecast followed a low-pressure system now at a position 4.8’N 93.7’E in the Andaman Sea.

In our beloved country that is Malaysia, thunderstorms are actually such a common phenomenon that would occur throughout the year and also usually occurs in the evening and early twilight. Although it is relatively small in size, all thunderstorms are indeed very dangerous. Every thunderstorm that usually occurs would definitely produce bright lightning that can threaten human lives. Other than that, heavy rain from thunderstorms can result in flash floods and landslides. In addition, strong winds and hail associated with some thunderstorms are also dangerous.

The weather of non-stop heavy rain since Friday had caused several areas specifically in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and also several other states to be flooded causing people to be evacuated to relief centres. The low-pressure system is expected to move to the east near the north of the Straits of Malacca. The possibility of this system rising to the level of the Tropical Depression is low as it also can cause thunderstorms in the northern states of the Peninsula.

For those who might not know, thunderstorms have the potential to produce hail, heavy rain, lightning strikes, and also gusts of wind. Some very bad weather conditions can occur when a cluster of thunderstorms hits an area for a long period of time. Downward eruption describes the rapid drop of air in a small area under a thunderstorm. The resulting strong winds can reach extremely high speeds that can cause significant destruction along its route.
