(Video) Can Affect Many Things, Here Are Some Ways To Stay Safe During Hailstorm

Recently, our country once again has been hit with quite a dangerous hailstorm. Looking at the situation at that time, the hailstorm really affected a lot of things around the area, and many people were taking shelter when it happened. In fact, this hailstorm can be seen frequently happen all over the world as it is really a normal natural phenomenon.

For those who might not know, a hailstorm is actually a weather phenomenon that would be unusual to happen but it still happened once in a while. Based on the appearances, balls of ice that are called hail could be seen falling from the sky. Worry not, because the balls of ice crashing to the ground are just solid precipitation that will usually form under certain conditions of the climate. But, people should protect themselves from hailstorm as it is so dangerous.

A hailstorm that usually occurs is actually a storm that comes with numerous hailstones. According to National Geographic, hailstones are originally formed by layers of water that got attached and then frozen in a huge size of the cloud. After that, a lot of frozen droplets begin to fall freely from the cloud during a storm but got pushed back up into the cloud by a strong updraft of wind. When the frozen droplets are lifted, they hit liquid water droplets.

Because of that, the droplets then got frozen to form the hailstone which added another layer to it. After a while, the hailstone falls to the ground when it becomes too heavy to be supported, or when the updraft slows down or stops. Hailstorm is so dangerous to face when they happen suddenly and people have to really take fast action to stay safe from being hurt by the hailstorm. These are some of the ways that everyone could try to stay safe from the hailstorm.

Before Hailstorm

  • Make sure the roof of your house has no damage and if there is any, fix the problem as soon as possible so that it would not get worse when a hailstorm happens.
  • Remove any branches or trees that look not sturdy enough around your house or even cars.
  • Cover your cars with an external cover when you park them so that the hailstorm does not damage the cars.

During Hailstorm

  • Stay away from getting protection under trees or even areas that could fill up with hailstones easily so that you would not get injured by them.
  • Stay indoors all the time when a hailstorm occurs because you definitely do not want to get hit by the hailstones on your head and injured during that time.
  • Do not forget to make sure that your pets are also in the house when a hailstorm happens.

After Hailstorm

  • Check the condition of the electrical appliances in your house. Turn them all off if there is a power outage happens because it might cause a power surge and damage any electrical appliances.
  • If your house gets dark, use a flashlight instead of candles so that you could avoid accidentally burning the house down.
  • When the situation gets better, clean up all the debris that got left from the hailstorm and also proceed to fix any damages that are done by it.
