Russia Can Still Bid To Qualify For World Cup But With No Use of Flag And Anthem

According to an official statement released by FIFA recently, the current situation of Russia and Ukraine has made them decide that Russia can still continue its bid to qualify for the World Cup but with several changes to how the game would take place. Even with this new decision by FIFA, a lot of fans still feel some type of way and so outraged.

In addition, even their own opponent refuses to play against them for the World Cup. One of them would be none other than the England team. Truth be told, England has stated that they will strictly boycott the matches that they would have against Russia amid the invasion that they made on Ukraine. But, the decision would change if needed.

This is what has mentioned on the FIFA website:

  • No international competition shall be played on the territory of Russia, with ‘home’ matches being played on neutral territory and without spectators.
  • The member association representing Russia shall participate in any competition under the name ‘Football Union of Russia (RFU)’ and not ‘Russia’.
  • No flag or anthem of Russia will be used in matches where teams from the Football Union of Russia participate.

Other than that, they also stated that FIFA would definitely take any further actions to be under consideration and that is including the group’s exclusion from the particular games if the situation gets worse than they are right now.
