75th Cannes Film Festival Kicks Off

CANNES (France), May 18 (Bernama) — The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off here on Tuesday evening with an opening ceremony hosted by Belgian actress Virginie Efira.

The festival’s nine-member jury is headed by French actor Vincent Lindon, winner of the Best Actor Award at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in 2015, according to Xinhua.

Indian actress Deepika Padukone and Iranian director Asghar Farhadi are among the other eight jury members.

Out of competition, the French comedy ‘Coupez!’ (Final Cut), directed by Michel Hazanavicius, was chosen this year as the opening film. It is a remake of the 2017 Japanese film ‘One Cut of the Dead’.

This year, 21 films have been selected to compete for the Palme d’Or, the competition’s highest prize.
