Dota 2 Largest E-Sports Tournament Will Be Held in Southeast Asia

Dota 2 developer, Valve, announced that The International 11 (TI11) will be held in Singapore. The International, commonly known as TI is a yearly Dota 2 e-sports tournament that features some of the world’s best Dota teams.

This year, 20 teams will participate in the tournament, which will take place between the 8 to the 30 of October. The tournament will use 2 different venues. The Playoff stage will take place at SunTec Singapore and the Finals will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Several stages will take place in Singapore

The tournament will take place in several stages with longer breaks in between. Last chance qualifiers begin on the 8 October until the 12. This stage of the tournament gives opportunity to teams that did not manage to qualify for TI. 2 spots are up for grabs.

The group stage begins on the 15 until the 18 October which will feature 20 teams: 12 directly invited teams, 6 regional winners; one team each from North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China and Southeast Asia and 2 last chance qualifiers winners. This stage will predetermine the bracket that the teams will be in during the next stage of the tournament.

The preliminary Playoff stage will take place from the 20 until the 23 of October. Then, there will be a 5-day break before the Final Playoff stage begins on the 29 until 30 October. The winning team will be crowned the Aegis of Champions.

TI has one of the largest prize pools in any sport to date. Year after year since its establishment, TI has been breaking records of having the biggest prize pool in a single e-sports tournament. Last year TI, the tournament had a whopping USD40 Million prize pool, with the champions, Team Spirit, taking home over USD18.2 Million.
