Hurricane Ian: Two Brothers Drowned In A Flooded Canal

Tahjir Burrowes, 6, and Tahjon Burrowes, 17, died due to drowning in a flooded canal. Their mother, Lachera Burrowes, reveals that the two brothers are like best friends despite their age.

Tahjir wandered out of their home in Florida, heading to a hurricane-flooded canal. The hurricane knocked down the fences of their home, and Tahjir saw it as an opportunity to escape. He had been diagnosed with severe autism and was fond of water.

Tahjon realized what had happened as soon as he stepped out of the bathroom. Tahjir is missing! He informed about it to his mother before rushing out of their house.

Lachera immediately drove to the canal. All she saw was still water, and all she heard was silence. The police searched for the boys after Lachero made a report on it. They have been pronounced dead from drowning.

Lachera believes that as a big brother, Tahjon must have jumped into the flooded canal to save Tahjir. She states that she would do the same thing too if she were Tahjon.

“I don’t know if one could be without the other. He could not stand there and not jump in.”

Lachera is an addiction counselor who lives paycheck to paycheck. She is also a single mother. Despite all that, she did her best as a mother of three sons. She brought them and their grandmother to a hotel for safety during the hurricane.

This hurricane is the deadliest in Florida since 1935. According to NBC News, Hurricane Ian has contributed to 130 deaths.
