When shopping online, the Singapore Police Force suggests taking the following safety measures:
- The price offered in the Facebook marketplace is probably too good to be true. Buy high-value items from authorized merchants or reliable sources.
- On the other hand, use in-built payment methods that release payment to the vendor only upon delivery for buyer protection. Avoid advance payments or direct bank transfers to the sellers as they’re not safe.
- Scammers may offer a better or faster deal if bank transfers payments made straight to them via WhatsApp or WeChat. They may utilize a local bank account or an NRIC/licensed driver to appear legitimate. Resist!
