Man From Singapore Accused Of Selling Counterfeit Rolex On Facebook

A 25-year-old man arrested in Singapore on suspicion of fraud involving the claimed sale of counterfeit Rolex watches.

For your information, from May to October 2022, the victims told the police that they had been scammed by an online seller who had advertised Rolex watches for sale on the Facebook marketplace.

Then, after accepting money via PayNow, the suspect allegedly met with the victims and handed out counterfeit Rolex watches.

Also, according to the Singapore Police Force website, On 13 October 2022, Ang Mo Kio Police Division officers identified and arrested the individual.

In addition to that, preliminary investigations showed that the man was involve in several similar crimes with losses exceeding $88,000 (RM291,044)

Moreover, on 15 October 2022, the man will face cheating charges under Penal Code 1871 Section 420. Cheating is punishable by a fine and jail time of up to ten years.

When shopping online, the Singapore Police Force suggests taking the following safety measures:

  • The price offered in the Facebook marketplace is probably too good to be true. Buy high-value items from authorized merchants or reliable sources.
  • On the other hand, use in-built payment methods that release payment to the vendor only upon delivery for buyer protection. Avoid advance payments or direct bank transfers to the sellers as they’re not safe.
  • Scammers may offer a better or faster deal if bank transfers payments made straight to them via WhatsApp or WeChat. They may utilize a local bank account or an NRIC/licensed driver to appear legitimate. Resist!
