Netflix Announces Ad-Supported Streaming Plan, Launch In 12 Countries

Netflix has announced the release of its ad-supported streaming plan. The plan will be a cheaper option compared to their other plans but will have some limitations.

However, the plan will launch in the following 12 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US.

Not to worry, Netflix plans to bring the streaming plan to more countries in the future. The plan will be called “Basic with Ads” and will cost $6.99 a month.

It will arrive this coming November to those 12 countries. The plan comes with a limited 720p/HD, which is the same as Netflix’s Basic plans.

Furthermore, users can expect 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour that will come in 15-30 second lengths. The ads will play before and during shows and films.

On top of that, Netflix stated that some TV shows and films will not be available due to licensing restrictions and will not be able to download shows.

In a press release, Netflix stated that “We’re confident that … we now have a price and plan for every fan.”

“While it’s still very early days, we’re pleased with the interest from both consumers and the advertising community and couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.”

Netflix hopes that the plan will be a game-changer for the company. Reports say that Netflix is losing a lot of subscribers, with more than 1 million subscribers leaving the platform in the first half of this year alone.

Netflix follows other streaming services with the launch of its ads-based streaming plan. Disney+ will also release their ads-supported plans this December in the US. It will cost $7.99 a month.
