Qatar 2022 Will “Surely” Be Lionel Messi’s Last World Cup

Lionel Messi has said that the World Cup Qatar will “surely” be his last. The 35 -year-old has appeared in four World Cups with Argentina. He has scored six goals and assisted on five goals in his 19 appearances for the country.

After leading his country to the Copa America victory in 2021, the World Cup is the only trophy he doesn’t have.

“It’s my last World Cup, surely,” he said.

“I’m counting down the days to the World Cup. There is anxiety and nerves at the same time. Wanting it to be now, what is going to happen, and ultimately, how is it going to go?” Messi added while speaking to ESPN.

Messi made his first appearance for Argentina in a national team competition in 2005. Since then, he has played for a total of 164 times for Argentina and has scored 90 goals.

As he prepares to compete in his fifth World Cup, he will break the record for most appearances at the tournament for an Argentina player, which he previously shared with Diego Maradona and Javier Mascherano.

For your information, at the Qatar World Cup, Argentina will compete in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Poland, and Mexico. The tournament will be started on November 20. Argentina is currently placed third in in the Fifa world rankings.

“In a World Cup, anything can happen. All the matches are very tough. The favourites don’t always end up winning,” Messi said.
