Three Australian States Ordered To Evacuate After Heavy Rain

As severe flooding hits three Australian states, authorities have issued evacuation orders for the communities in those states.

BBC reported that some parts of the country got more than three times their usual amount of rain for October in just 24 hours.

BBC also reported that 500 homes have been blooded, one person has died, and another is missing as a result of the calamity.

Moreover, more than 20 people have died this year due to floods across Australia. Australia’s second most populated state, Victoria takes the biggest damage this week. The state capital of Melbourne is among the states told to evacuate.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the number of inundated homes was “absolutely certain to grow”. He stated that it is one of the state’s worst flood events in decades.

“This has only just started, and it’s going to be with us for a while,” he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Roads have been completely submerged, and schools have been closed. In addition to that, electricity has been cut off to 3,000 homes and businesses as a result of flooding.

The next few weeks are expected to bring more rain. This will put more pressure on rivers and already saturated terrain.
