Victoria Theatre And Concert Hall Will Display T-rex’s Skeleton For Auction

Victoria Theatre And Concert Hall in Singapore will display a Tyrannosaurus rex’s skeleton from the 28th to the 30th of October. The t-rex’s skeleton is a part of a preview for the upcoming auction in Asia, Christie’s Hong Kong Autumn Auctions.

This is the first time a fossilised specimen will be bidded at Asia’s auction. The auction will take place from 25th November to 3rd December.

The t-rex’s skeleton, given the nickname, Shen, or ‘god-like’ in Chinese, is worth around HK$120 million and HK$200 million. This is equal to US$15 million to US$25 million. Those who are interested can register the slots to see the fossilised specimen. The booking for the current slots is full. Nevertheless, upcoming slots are opening by next week. Each booking requires one person only, and the time for viewing lasts 30 minutes.

People who do not book the slots can also view the specimen. However, Christie’s representative is unsure how long they will have to wait to enter the auction.

Before this, only two t-rexes’ skeletons have been auctioned. One was Sue, sold for US$8.3 million in 1997 by Sotheby. Besides that, Christie’s Stan was sold for US$31.8 million in 2020.

Shen‘s skeleton was excavated in 2020 in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana. Shen weighs 1,400kg, with a length of 12.2m, and a height of 4.6m. Museums, cultural institutions, and private individuals are welcome to participate in the auction.

Not only that, but Christie’s Hong Kong Autumn Auctions in Singapore also will present the works of Asian and Western artists. Their works include grandeur items like handbags and watches. Moreover, items like jewelry will be displayed too.
