Apple Largest iPhone Factory Under Covid Lockdown In China

The Chinese government has lockdown Zhengzhou city, home to the world’s largest iPhone manufacture, due to the widespread spread of the coronavirus.

The closure, which begun on Wednesday, will run for seven days. The move might affect the ability of the factory’s facility in the city to manufacture the new iPhone 14.

Businesses and citizens in China are still trying to adjust to President Xi Jinping’s strict zero-Covid policy.

Foxconn, the leading supplier of iPhones, owns the facility in Zhengzhou. Foxconn reported this week that a minor epidemic of Covid had occurred at their facility in Zhengzhou.

Zhengzhou is now fighting against a fresh swarm of Covid. As China continues to implement its zero-Covid policy, the city has sealed off some areas in an effort to combat the virus through testing and containment.

After Zhengzhou unexpectedly eased some restrictions on Tuesday, the lockdown indicates a return to stricter measures in the region. On Tuesday, there was 358 cases of Covid in the city, up from Monday’s total of 95.

Authorities announced on Wednesday that the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone will close. The closure started at noon and will end on the 9th of November.

Furthermore, an official announcement was announced on the social media app WeChat. Accordingly, the announcement advises people to stay home from work and avoid the public transportation system.

Moreover, Foxconn instituted viral protection measures last month. This includes forcing staff to get a Covid test within 24 hours of visiting the Zhengzhou premises and encouraging them to vaccinate.

Apple continues to rely primarily on China for iPhone manufacture. However, Apple recently has made a move to begin their production of the iPhone 14 in India.
