Travelling to a country where you do not understand the language might be troublesome. But not in this area in Vietnam — Malaysian Street, in Ho Chi Minh.
A traveller and a TikToker known as @KakiJalae visited a place where he encountered a community that speaks Malay. From a comment on the video, the place is called Malaysian Street in Vietnam.
Malaysian Street In Ho Chi Minh
The owner of the video mentioned that these people speak the accent of ‘Melayu Champa.’ They are mostly Muslims.
Meet Mr. Hamid
@KakiJalae, which roughly translated as walking feet (a person who likes to travel), went there to experience the food. He met a man, Mr. Hamid, who sells Bingka Ubi (Baked Tapioca Cake), Murtabak, and Nasi Lemak. They are all Malaysian food!
Of course, when travelling, we do not solely visit a place without eating. @KakiJalae decided to buy from Mr. Hamid. What was fascinating about Mr. Hamid was he spoke fluent Malay language with a ‘Malayu Champa’ accent with @KakiJalae. Thus, the TikTok account owner said it was easy to deal with Mr. Hamid.
The video introduces us to Bingka Ubi and Popiah-like-Murtabak. They looked so good! Only by seeing them from the screen, your mouth with water. Mr. Hamid said he usually sells Nasi Lemak too, but that day, there were not many people around the area. Thus, he did not prepare the Malaysian national dish.
Mr. Hamid sells the food on his motorcycle. For additional information, the food is halal. Therefore, for Muslims out there who wish to visit Vietnam, come and buy Mr. Hamid’s food!
@KakiJalae also got the chance to meet other people that understand the Malay language. See the full video below:
