Wondering What To Name Your Newborn? How About Classic Malay Names!

Most Malay baby names comes from the Arabic language. However, there are some that use Sanskrit, Javanese, and even Malay names.

Malay names for babies often include both a personal name (which is what people call you everday) and a patronym.

The family name is not used by Malay people. For males, the patronymic consists of the father’s given name followed by the Arabic phrase “bin” (‘son of’).

On the other hand, the Arabic term “binti”, which translates to “daughter of,” is added to the end of the father’s given name to form the patronymic for females. Moreover, women in Malay society are not expected to follow the cultural norm of changing their surnames.

Unfortunately, classic names are not regularly used nowadays. So, what about using classic names for your newborn instead? Take a look below and see some classic names that sound really cool and have a deeper meaning to them!
