Italy’s Department of Civil Protection raised the alert that the catastrophe also triggered a small tsunami. The tsunami’s waves were 1.5 metres high.

The alert level was orange, which allows experts to monitor and inspect the incident around the volcano more closely. For safety, all schools in parts of Italy were directed to be closed on Monday.
