McDonald’s Malaysia Brings Chinese New Year Cheer To Old Folks To Usher In Year Of The Rabbit

McDonald’s Malaysia

McDonald’s Malaysia continues giving back to the communities it serves by ushering in the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit with its past tradition of sharing joy and “The True Meaning of Prosperity” with old folks from more than 120 old folks’ homes nationwide.

The quick-service restaurant will be continuing its 7-year-old community initiative, where McDonald’s restaurants across the nation will be visiting the old folks’ homes in Malaysia from 15 January to 15 February 2023, to spread joy and cheer to the old folks.

To kick off the festivities, McDonald’s brought over 50 old folks from Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged, as well as several members of the hard-working local authorities such as the police, Bomba and Rukun Tetangga personnel to come together for a McDonald’s ‘Makan Besar’ feast today at McDonald’s Birch House in Penang. This is McDonald’s effort to bring this large-scale cheer to the northern part of Malaysia. It had earlier held a ‘Makan Besar’ feast at McDonald’s Mutiara Damansara for the old folks from My Father’s House, Petaling Jaya on 11 January 2023.

“McDonald’s has always championed familial bond through communities. As we enter the new year, we will continue to support and care for the communities, especially the old folks. This Chinese New Year outreach programme is to invoke McDonald’s ‘True Meaning of Prosperity’ and share precious memories with loved ones. More importantly, it is also to show that communities, similar to a family, require nurturing and care to flourish,” said Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, at McDonald’s Malaysia.

“This is the seventh consecutive year that McDonald’s has been organising visitations to bring cheer to old folks and every year, we are fortunate to be able to visit more than 120 old folks’ homes and spend quality time with them during this festive occasion. At the heart of McDonald’s, we will always put our communities first and give back in any way we can. We want to spread joy and happiness as these moments are truly priceless to us and the communities at large,” said Dato Azmir Jaafar.

The nationwide outreach programmes include festive activities such as Lion Dance, Prosperity Toss (Yee Sang), and the highlight – a karaoke session with McDonald’s crew. These efforts are part of the initiative under Program Komuniti @ McDonald’s and RMHC, to cultivate “The True Meaning of Prosperity” amongst the old folks in celebrating the joy of a new year together.

Dato Azmir Jaafar pointed out that the McDonald’s Chinese New Year outreach programme underlined the company’s commitment as a caring neighbour to feed and foster the communities in which it operates in. Through this engagement and other related activities, McDonald’s hopes to promote the spirit of togetherness and remind Malaysians that “The True Meaning of Prosperity” is who you have with you, rather than what you have.
