Multi-Mode Toll Payment System Will Be Implemented Before 2025

Negotiations are going on regarding the multi-mode toll payment system. It is said that the government is weighing the implementation of a multi-lane free flow (MLFF) toll collection system before 2025. Initially, the system is set to sail two years from now. However, minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi aimed to make it happen immediately.

The minister said, “The timeframe has been mentioned as 2025, but I expressed my views to (highway) concessionaires that if we can quicken it, maybe we will be able to implement it even earlier than 2025.”

Additionally, Datuk Seri Alexander admitted there would be many things to consider, especially technicalities and legal aspects. These are some of the concerns that should be addressed first above all. Rest assured, the engagements and discussions regarding the system are actively going.

He spoke to the reporters during the launching of the TNB Electron DC fast charging network at Ayer Keroh R&R yesterday.

Do all Malaysians have to use RFID at the toll?

As of now, there’s no definite answer. The government is still looking into various systems and compare with others. However, there will not be any constant adoption system yet. Thankfully, the experts will carry out a thorough observation of those MLFF payment methods installed in other countries like Singapore and Australia.

The system will undergo many tests before it’s ready for the people. It’s to ensure the new system is an upgrade of the Touch ‘n Go system and not a downgrade.
