Petaling Street Is Listed As One Of The Most Notorious Markets For Counterfeiting By USTR

There is no doubt that Petaling Street is one of the famous locations that locals and tourists like to visit. You can find anything there such as gifts, cuisines, herbs, and more.

However, with all the things the place can provide for customers, The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) listed this place as one of the notorious markets, last year, in 2022. The list collected several places across the world which are famous for counterfeiting and piracy.

There are two divisions on the list — online and physical markets. Petaling Street falls under the physical market.

Katherine Tai, the ambassador, mentioned the list is important so that the activities of counterfeiting and piracy can be exterminated.

“The Notorious Markets List is an important tool that urges the private sector and our trading partners to take action against these harmful practices.”

Citing USTR, Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur is a well-known market in Kuala Lumpur that sells large volumes of counterfeit items. The items include watches, shoes, handbags, wallets, sunglasses, and other consumer goods.

Other markets listed are from the countries of the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Mexico, and Vietnam, to name a few.
