MYAirline has launched its third destination to Sarawak as it touched down at Miri International Airport earlier today. On board Flight Z9 8301 is YB Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin, the Minister for Transport Sarawak with his first experience with MYAirline.
Miri has a lot to offer to visitors not only in leisure tourism but also education, medical and agricultural sectors. Miri is also known for its myriad of cultural and musical festivals, most of which are held on an annual basis. Known to be the gateway to Sarawak’s natural wonders, Miri has four national parks, including the world’s largest cave systems, pristine patch reefs, and even a beach that is known for its Blue Tears.
In addition, many hidden gems are waiting to be discovered by the most adventurous of travelers. With a large majority of its economic strength coming from the petroleum industry, one can even visit the first-ever oil well located on Canada Hill and learn about the origins of the Malaysian petroleum industry which started in Miri.
“We are very excited to announce the launch of our third destination to Sarawak with the once-daily flight to Miri,” said Rayner Teo, Chief Executive Officer of MYAirline. “This route unlocks travel for an eclectic mix of passengers for us; from business travelers in the petroleum industry to festival goers, beach lovers, and adventure seekers, Miri has them all. We are keen to further enhance not only the local economic sector by providing convenient flight schedules but to also make the destination more attractive to tourists and travelers by having twice daily flights from 15 March 2023.”
“The addition of this route to MYAirline’s roster is timely. In fact, I have been canvassing for more airlines to fly into Sarawak,” said YB Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin. “We are looking to achieve goals set in the master plan for Greater Miri and the frequency of flight to improve air connection through the development of cultural, tourism, business, and logistics. Miri is also the second biggest city in Sarawak, with diverse economic activities, such as oil and gas, tourism, plantation, and shipbuilding. Adequate flights which can provide good connectivity to international destinations are essential to facilitate travel to bring in business travelers, tourists, and air cargo. In this connection, I fervently hope MYAirline will also include direct flights to certain international destinations from Miri.”
“We have many cultural experiences and adventures to offer in the local vicinity of Miri and are very pleased to hear that MYAirline decided to extend their service here,” said YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Arts of Sarawak. “Making Miri more accessible via air has long been a priority for us and this allows us to promote local attractions even more aggressively.”
Miri marks the eighth daily domestic route for MYAirline from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2. While its route network comprises destinations namely Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Kota Bharu, Langkawi, Penang, Sibu, Tawau, and the Miri, plans are underway to increase more destinations and flight frequencies.
